In this team spotlight, we sit down with Andy, our Operations Manager, to learn more about him, his role and what made him enter the world of transport!
What is your role and what does a typical day look like for you?
As Operations Manager, I oversea the general operation of our fleet of 40 vehicles, and their drivers, which operate 24/7. This can involve recruitment, managing staff training and development, vehicle compliance and maintenance. I also work closely with a fantastic team of planners to ensure the fleet is best utilised to meet our customer’s needs.
When did you join the Dennis Distribution team?
I am proud to have worked for Dennis Distribution for eight years. I prefer to work for a family business where decisions regarding operational issues can be made quickly and effectively, allowing a more positive and timely reaction to our customer’s requirements, especially working in the FMCG sector
What is your favourite thing about your role?
I enjoy the autonomy of my role which means I can react to resolve issues effectively. This gives me the confidence and ability to promote Dennis Distribution when tendering for new work where we can offer bespoke solutions to our customers that will really make a difference to their business.
What is your favourite thing about working at Dennis Distribution?
My favourite thing is the opportunity for training and the ability to progress, I am lucky to have been able to take advantage of external training which has helped to develop my leadership skills.
Outside of work, what are your hobbies or interests?
I am enthusiastic at DIY and I also enjoying cooking, especially BBQ when the weather permits!
What advice would you give to someone who wants to pursue a career similar to yours?
Learn the fundamentals first, vehicle compliance is a huge part of what we manage which is essential to ensure road safety. Be prepared for ongoing training as legislation and driving laws change continually as the industry develops.
