Meet Alex, our Transport Planner!

Up next in our team spotlight series is Alex, our fantastic Transport Planner, who joined us in 2020!

What is your role and what does a typical day look like for you?

As a Transport Planner, I am responsible for planning a fleet of 42 vehicles and 50+ drivers across 5 operating centres, which includes creating and delivering a plan that will achieve our customer’s goals and remain compliant.

When did you join the Dennis Distribution team?

I joined Dennis Distribution in July 2020, in the middle of the pandemic, which was certainly an interesting time! I had moved to Pickering, following 20+ years in York, so it was fantastic to find a job closer to home whilst working for a long-established family business and the team were very welcoming from the very beginning.

What is your favourite thing about your role?

Naturally, working in a transport department, it means that no two days are the same. I get great satisfaction knowing we have achieved company goals, offered great customer service and made a difference. No matter how big or small that difference may be.

What is your favourite thing about working at Dennis Distribution?

I really enjoy working as part of a great team who contribute and compliment each other, as well as working with great leadership that recognises success, both collectively and individually as well as quality time spent with family.

Outside of work, what are your hobbies or interests?

I’m a proud father to two daughters Amelia & Evie, so I enjoy creating new memories to cherish and spending quality time with my girls. This year, we have bought the annual pass for North Yorkshire Moors Railway. As a lifelong fan of Manchester United, I most recently enjoyed watching the reds win the FA cup against rivals Manchester City!

What advice would you give to someone who wants to pursue a career similar to yours?

Growing up, I never envisaged a career within transport. I wanted to be a train driver or an air traffic controller. Nowadays, I don’t think I would pursue any other career path. Working in transport offers great job satisfaction. The career prospects within transport are endless as long as there is enthusiasm, a willingness to go that extra mile and learn.
